๐Ÿ“– Parlia Pro Quick Start Guide

Everything you need to know to use Parlia Pro confidently โ€” before, during, and after any meeting.

The Golden Rule

Parlia Pro is built for the exact moment someone challenges a ruling, calls the wrong motion, or tries to railroad the meeting. Just type what's happening in plain English โ€” no need to know the technical term. Parlia will look it up and tell you exactly what to say.

๐Ÿš€ Getting Started
1
Go to parliapro.com and sign in

Use your email and password. Your session stays active for the entire meeting โ€” no need to sign back in.

2
Select your role

Tap your role โ€” Chair, Member, Secretary, Treasurer, etc. This tells Parlia how to frame every answer. A Chair gets word-for-word rulings. A Member gets their rights and exact scripts.

๐Ÿ’ก You can switch roles anytime โ€” use the sidebar buttons or the ๐Ÿช‘ Chair / ๐Ÿ™‹ Member pills directly in the chat bar at the bottom of the screen.

3
Type your question in plain English โ€” or use your voice

You don't need to know the RONR section number or the motion name. Just describe what's happening: "A member is demanding a vote right now and won't let me finish."

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Tap the microphone button in the chat bar to dictate your question hands-free โ€” useful when you're presiding and can't type.

4
Or pick a common scenario from the sidebar

The sidebar shows pre-built scenario chips for the most common situations โ€” "Someone raised a Point of Order," "A member made a motion," etc. Tap one to send it instantly. Great for getting started fast or when you don't have time to type.

5
Get your answer โ€” use it immediately

Parlia gives you the exact words to say, the RONR rule it's based on, and what to do if someone pushes back. The whole answer usually arrives in under 10 seconds.

๐ŸŽฏ Tips for Live Meetings
โšก
Be brief in your question. You don't need full sentences. "Member interrupting speaker, demanding immediate vote" works perfectly. Parlia knows what you mean.
๐ŸŽ™๏ธ
Use voice input when you can't type. Tap the microphone button in the chat bar to dictate your question. Ideal when you're presiding and both hands are occupied.
๐Ÿ”„
Switch roles without looking at the sidebar. The ๐Ÿช‘ Chair and ๐Ÿ™‹ Member pills sit right in the chat bar โ€” one tap switches your role mid-conversation without losing context.
๐Ÿช‘
If you're the Chair, look for the blockquote text in the answer โ€” that's your exact script. Read it word for word. It's written to sound authoritative from the podium.
๐Ÿ™‹
If you're a Member, look for "What You Say" โ€” that's your exact script. Look for "If They Push Back" to see your escalation path if the chair ignores you.
๐Ÿ“ฑ
Keep Parlia open in a browser tab the entire meeting. It works on phone, tablet, and laptop. On a phone, use landscape mode for more screen space.
๐Ÿ”„
Ask follow-up questions. Parlia remembers your conversation. "What if they appeal that ruling?" or "What's the vote threshold for this?" works perfectly after an initial answer.
๐Ÿ“
If you're taking minutes, jot rough notes as the meeting goes โ€” who moved what, votes, outcomes. After the meeting, use the Minutes Generator to turn them into proper RONR minutes in seconds.
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ
If you have Rules Shield, upload your bylaws before the meeting and label them with the org name. Use the Bylaws toggle above the chat to switch which org's rules are active โ€” or turn it off for general RONR guidance. Every answer automatically references the active bylaws.
๐Ÿ”
If someone quotes an RONR section, open Rules Shield โ†’ Cite Checker instantly. Enter the section number and what they claimed โ€” Parlia checks it against the actual book text and gives you the exact words to respond with. Use the Ruling Card button to generate a shareable image.
๐Ÿ“
Received a written ruling or opinion letter? Use the Opinion Analyzer (Rules Shield โ†’ Opinion tab). Upload the file or paste the text โ€” Parlia generates a complete response letter ready to send โ€” no drafting required.
๐Ÿ’พ
Your conversation is automatically saved. Close the tab, refresh the page, or come back later โ€” your chat will still be there when you return. It only clears when you choose to clear it.
๐Ÿ“„
Download your conversation anytime using the Download button below the chat input. This saves a timestamped transcript to your device โ€” useful for keeping a record of rulings made during a meeting.
๐Ÿ” How to Use the Cite Checker
1๏ธโƒฃ
Open Rules Shield and click the Cite Checker tab. (Presiding plan required.)
2๏ธโƒฃ
Enter the section number that was cited (e.g. "ยง23" or "16") and what the person claimed it says or allows.
3๏ธโƒฃ
Click "Verify This Citation." Parlia pulls the actual text from RONR 12th Edition and checks whether the claim is correct, partial, or completely wrong.
4๏ธโƒฃ
Read the breakdown: ๐Ÿ“– What the section actually covers ยท ๐Ÿ’ฌ Plain English meaning ยท โœ… Whether the claim was correct ยท โš–๏ธ The full accurate rule ยท ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Exact words to say right now.
5๏ธโƒฃ
Click "๐Ÿ“ธ Generate Ruling Card" to create a shareable image of the correct rule โ€” send it in Zoom chat, text it to the group, or save it as proof.
๐Ÿ’ก
Pro tip: You can use Cite Checker mid-meeting in seconds. Just the section number is enough โ€” the claim is optional.
๐Ÿ“ How to Use the Opinion Analyzer
1๏ธโƒฃ
Open Rules Shield in the left sidebar and click the Opinion Analyzer tab. (Presiding plan required.)
2๏ธโƒฃ
Upload the document (PDF, Word .docx, or .txt) using the upload area โ€” or paste the full text directly into the text box. Either method works.
3๏ธโƒฃ
Click "Analyze & Generate Response." Parlia reviews the ruling against RONR 12th Edition and your uploaded bylaws (if active).
4๏ธโƒฃ
Review the verdict: Correct โœ…, Partially Correct โš ๏ธ, or Incorrect โŒ โ€” with a full explanation and the specific RONR sections that apply.
5๏ธโƒฃ
Click "Copy Response Letter" to copy the ready-to-send letter. Paste it into your email, add your name, and send. No drafting, no guessing.
6๏ธโƒฃ
Want to refine the letter? Use the โœ๏ธ Refine this letter box that appears below the result. Type your instruction โ€” adjust the tone, remove a paragraph, add context, change the style โ€” and click Refine Letter. Parlia rewrites the full letter with your changes while keeping all RONR citations intact. You can refine as many times as you like before copying.
๐Ÿ’ก
Pro tip: Upload your bylaws to Rules Shield before analyzing. Parlia will cross-reference the ruling against your specific governing documents for a more precise analysis.
โš–๏ธ How to Use the Precedent Checker
1๏ธโƒฃ
Open Rules Shield and click the Precedent Checker tab. (Presiding plan required.)
2๏ธโƒฃ
Describe the action that was taken โ€” what happened at the meeting (e.g., "The chair allowed a motion to be made without a second").
3๏ธโƒฃ
Describe how it's being used โ€” what someone is now claiming based on that past action (e.g., "They say we don't need seconds for motions because we didn't require one last time").
4๏ธโƒฃ
Click "Check This Precedent." Parlia gives a verdict โ€” Valid, Invalid, or Conditional โ€” with the RONR rule that applies, how to challenge it in the meeting, and exact scripted language.
๐Ÿ’ก
Key principle: Under RONR, a wrong action repeated is still wrong. An organization cannot bind itself by an erroneous precedent. Parlia will remind the room of this if the claimed precedent is invalid.
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ How to Use the Multi-Org Bylaws Selector
1๏ธโƒฃ
Open Rules Shield โ†’ Documents. Before uploading, type the organization's name in the "Organization name" field (e.g. "Rotary Club" or "HRP").
2๏ธโƒฃ
Upload the document. You can upload bylaws for multiple organizations โ€” each one is stored with its org label so you can tell them apart.
3๏ธโƒฃ
Each document has its own toggle in the Documents list. All documents are active by default. Turn individual ones off if you only want Parlia to reference specific documents for a session. You can upload up to 25 documents.
4๏ธโƒฃ
Use the Bylaws bar above the chat to see how many documents are active. The master toggle turns all bylaws on or off at once. Toggle OFF for general RONR guidance only.
๐Ÿ’ก
Pro tip: Active documents apply to everything โ€” the main chat, Cite Checker, Precedent Checker, and Opinion Analyzer all reference whichever documents are toggled on.
๐Ÿ—‚ How to Use Spaces

Spaces are named workspaces โ€” one per organization you serve. When a Space is active, Parlia automatically uses that organization's documents and saved web links in every answer. Available on Officer and Presiding plans (2 or 4 spaces).

1๏ธโƒฃ
Go to Rules Shield โ†’ Documents tab. Scroll to the Spaces section at the top. Click + New Space.
2๏ธโƒฃ
Name the Space after your organization (e.g. "Hawaii Republican Party" or "Rotary Club #1234"). Choose the role you most commonly serve in that org โ€” Parlia will switch to that role automatically whenever you activate this Space.
3๏ธโƒฃ
Upload documents into the Space. When uploading a document, select the Space from the "Assign to Space" dropdown in the upload form. Each Space holds up to 10 documents.
4๏ธโƒฃ
Add reference web links (optional). Click a Space to activate it โ€” a green Reference Links panel appears below. Paste any URL (your state party's website, a statute page, meeting minutes online) and Parlia fetches and stores a snapshot. Up to 10 links per Space.
5๏ธโƒฃ
Activate a Space before chatting. Tap the Space name in the list โ€” it highlights green. Now every question you ask automatically references that Space's documents and saved links. Tap it again to deactivate.
6๏ธโƒฃ
Switch between organizations instantly. Deactivate the current Space and tap a different one. Parlia switches context, role, and documents in one tap โ€” no re-uploading needed.
๐Ÿ’ก
Pro tip: Web link snapshots are stored permanently until you delete them โ€” they don't expire or change. If a page is updated and you want the new version, delete the old link and add it again.
โ“ Common Questions
Is Parlia Pro always accurate?

Parlia cites the specific RONR 12th Edition section for every answer so you can verify it. It's designed to be accurate, but parliamentary procedure can depend on your organization's specific bylaws โ€” always check them too, especially with Rules Shield.

What if I run out of questions mid-meeting?

Parlia will let you know when you're getting close. You can add a Question Boost from the pricing page โ€” it works instantly with no subscription needed. Officer plan gets 100 questions/month which is far more than any single meeting would use.

What if my internet is slow or drops during the meeting?

Parlia will show an error message if a question fails. Just try again โ€” it usually resolves in seconds. Keep the tab open the whole meeting so you stay logged in.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes โ€” it works on any device with a browser. iPhone, Android, iPad, laptop, desktop. No app to install. Just go to parliapro.com and sign in.

Will the chair or other members know I'm using it?

That's entirely up to you. Many members use it discreetly on their phone. Some chairs use it openly as a parliamentary reference tool, which is completely legitimate โ€” even professional parliamentarians reference RONR during meetings.

How do I generate minutes after the meeting?

In the sidebar, tap "Minutes Mode: OFF" to toggle it on. Fill in the meeting details (organization, date, presiding officer, secretary). Then type or dictate your rough notes into the notepad. During the meeting, use the Log Motion button to instantly record any motion made โ€” it adds it to your notes in the correct RONR format. Tap "Generate Minutes" and Parlia will produce properly formatted RONR minutes you can copy, download, or save.

How do I review answers from a previous session?

Use the Download button below the chat input to save a PDF transcript of your current conversation at any time. Your current session is also automatically restored if you close and reopen the tab. A full Q&A History feature for browsing past sessions is available โ€” look for the My Q&A History button in the sidebar.
